Air Jordan is a line of basketball sneakers produced by Nike. The first pair of Air Jordan sneakers were produced for basketball player Michael Jordan during his time with the Chicago Bulls. On November 17, 1984, Michael Jordan played his first NBA (National Basketball Association) game in his new Air Jordans. It was the first time a player showed up in colorful sneakers of his own choosing, which was not allowed at the time and therefore resulted in several large fines that Nike was willing to pay. Michael Jordan signed a five-year contract with Nike worth $2.5 million at the time, three times more than any other deal in the National Basketball Association (NBA) at the time.
